What is Sleep Apnea ?

There are two types of apneas, obstructive and central.
The obstructive is an obstruction in the respiratory airways by an abnormal growth that is present only during sleep. People whose tissues in the throat as the bell, which surrounds the long palate and tongue, any of these can be quite large, causing a resistance to air to pass, causing snoring.
If snoring progresses, the obstruction becomes complete and no air passes causing the occurrence of these apneas. Some people stop breathing 20 times per hour of sleep, some people fail to do so 10 times, an issue that is considered mild, 20 moderate and the average is over 30 is severe, since there are cases where the patient is breathing 100 times in an hour.
Moreover, central apnea is related to dysfunction of the respiratory centers to central nervous system, the brain, our brain has centers regulating cardiac activity and respiratory activity. Then in the central brain sends the signal to breathe. This type of apnea presenting infants who die during sleep, known as sudden infant death syndrome or crib death, have a substrate of this type of respiratory disturbance of central apnea.
