Treatment Of Obesity and Overweight

Obesity and overweight are linked to the existence of an energy imbalance: we eat too much, too fatty, too sweet, while our physical activity and therefore our energy needs have decreased.

We must expend calories by exercise: walking, gymnastics, gardening, sports etc. .. A regular activity and “moderate” gives a better result than a short but intense exercise. A regular exercise with some intense moments can increase muscle mass which in turn increases the energy dissipation and can store more glycogen in the muscles. The OA-induced weight gain may be a limiting factor for resumption of sustained physical activity.

A medical journal in 2007 headlined: “The poor results of treatment against obesity and overweight” by reference to currently available drugs against obesity.
We mention 3 types of anti-obesity drugs currently in vogue: sibutramine, orlistat, rimonabant.
All studies on these molecules have been subsidized by the pharmaceutical industry, both studies proving their effectiveness as investigations studying the dangers they represent.

* Sibutramine (Reductil ®) act by reducing appetite and increasing thermogenesis. The manufacturer recommends a maximum of one year of treatment because of side effects of medication (increased blood pressure and heart rate).
* Orlistat (Xenical ®) act by limiting the digestion and intestinal absorption of lipids (fats).
