When To Call a Professional

If you have diabetes, high blood pressure or other conditions that put you at risk of end-stage renal disease, you should have regular checkups with blood and urine tests to measure kidney function. When blood tests reveal a reduction in renal function or protein in the urine, your doctor should refer you to a kidney specialist (nephrologist).
