The use of Yin Yang theory in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has gone through many phases. To be the only theory until it is accepted at all. Today is regarded as one of the cornerstones of TCM theory. In TCM, health is a state of balance. If a patient is too “yin” (cold, weak, heavy), or too “yang” (red, shrill, too) then our bodies are in a state of imbalance. In ancient Eastern philosophy, as in the West, there is a concept whereby a certain level is connected to everything important. Either quantum theory or in the teachings of Socrates, this philosophy is found in all cultures. This is the spiritual plane of the unit, described in most mystical traditions. As this spiritual connection to the subject moves, the next step is “yin – yang.”

In Christian texts we read to John, “In the beginning there was light.” Even here we must understand that the opposite of light is darkness. Then in the beginning there was light and darkness, and comes from the same unified force.

Hence, “yin – yang” is a phrase associated with understanding the world and in the case the universe is in balance.
