Selective Eating Syndrome

selective eating disorderThis little-known disorder is characterized in that people who have it included in your diet only 10 types of foods for a minimum of 10 years, limiting the intake of nutrients and food availability.

It has also been observed that usually people with this syndrome have other features of eating disorders and obsessive compulsive syndrome, which makes this disease even more worrisome because it can lead to anorexia or bulimia.

Now, we know that this disease has its origins on the children due to psychological problems, lack of affection, phobias and trauma. Also do not rule out the idea that it may occur because of neglect of food because they consider unhealthy or high in calories.

The trouble is that this syndrome is confused with “skill” or “selectivity” of food, making it very difficult to detect. People with this disorder have characteristic features, which are:

- Consume less than 10 types of food.
- Do not share much time with other people or social activities because they eat what is incompatible with others.
- They find it impossible to eat out because they can not include more food than they normally consume.
- Have excessive cleaning rituals, absolute order or other behaviors with obsessive traits.

It is very important to recognize these traits to realize who has this condition, because a limited supply of food can lead to physiological damage, to have vitamin deficiencies and diseases caused by lack of nutrients. Treat these people is not easy, because you need good nutrition therapy accompanied by psychological therapy to help ultimately eradicate this disease.
