Natural Medicine from China

Pharmaceutical name: Rhizoma Ligustici.
Botanical Name: Ligusticum sinense Oliver Ligusticum jeholense Nakai et Kitag.
Common name: Ligusticum Root.
First record: Shennong Bencao Jing.

Part used and method of pharmaceutical preparation:
The roots are extracted in the spring. After removing the fibrous roots, are dried in the sun. Then dive into water and then cut into slices.

Properties and Taste: Spicy and warm.

Meridians: Urinary bladder.
Features:

1. Emit and dispel cold outside

2. Expel wind and dampness,

3. Curbing the pain.

Indications and Combinations:
1. Headache caused by invasion of wind and cold, which manifests as pain in the vertex and migraine. The root of Ligusticum (Gaoben) is used with Angelita dahurica root (Baizhi) and rhizome Chuanxiong (Chuanxiong).


2. Bi syndrome of wind-cold-dampness manifested as pain in joints and limbs. The root of Ligusticum (Gaoben) is used with Ledebouriella root (Fangfeng), angelica root (Qianghuo), root clematis (Weiling-xian) and Atractylodes rhizome (Cangzhu).

Dose: 2-10 g

Precautions and Contraindications:

This herb is contraindicated during heat syndromes and headache caused by deficiency of blood.
