Exercise Against Premature Aging: Defense Against The Inevitable
Aging is a natural process that affects all body structures and functions, and is characterized by slow decline in the ability to perform all kinds of activities. None of us can escape it, but we can make over the years is very nice.
First, it should be noted that experts in Geriatrics and Physical Therapy agree that there are three mechanisms that explain the aging process, they can occur in combination:
Cell and tissue destruction due to toxic agents, oxygen deprivation, beatings, accidents, radiation (such as sunlight), infections or diseases in general. Loss of cellular activity, which may be due to both lack of stimulus and oversupply.
Programmed death (apoptosis) of cells, which can be accelerated in the absence of stimuli, ie, there is disuse atrophy.
Perhaps the exercise does not always have direct impact on the first of these points, although it has been found that eliminates toxins and strengthens the immune system (thus preventing the harmful effects of bacteria, viruses and fungi), but clearly influences decisively in the other two.
Simply to maintain adequate level of activity, without taxing, contributes to the prevention of aging because it puts up the entire body and improves the function of muscles, skeleton, joints and respiratory, circulatory and nervous, not to mention stimulating hormone activity .
To make matters worse, experts emphasize that a regular exercise reduces the risk of developing certain diseases which are the main cause of degeneration in the functioning of organs and tissues as well as medical treatment and deaths:
- Infarction or death from brain or heart due to clogged arteries.
- Obese or overweight.
- Diabetes, which is characterized by blood sugar levels above normal.
- High levels of blood fats (cholesterol and triglycerides) and blood pressure.
- Some cancers, including colon (large intestine) and breast cancer.
All this is said without forgetting that the continued implementation of physical activity also reduces the risk of falls and hip fracture (improves balance, and that strengthens muscles and joints), reduces symptoms of anxiety and depression, and promotes social integration by fostering the creation of new bond.
No wonder, many studies show that the benefits of exercise are always produced, regardless of age, physical condition or health of the individual (even cancer patients have seen positive effect), and can increase hope life in people with low activity (sedentary), as discussed below.
