Hypoglycemia and Treatment

What is hypoglycemia?
Hypoglycemia is a condition which affected the normal metabolism of carbohydrates (carbohydrates).
The pancreas does not function properly and produce excess insulin, which generates a level of blood glucose (blood sugar) lower than normal. Normal blood glucose values are between 70 to 110 mg / dl (milligrams per deciliter). When these values are below 40-50 mg / dl talk about hypoglycemia.
The role of insulin is to regulate blood sugar levels. When insulin production is excessive, transports glucose into the cells and thus lowers blood sugar.
Hypoglycemia is often inherited, but because of inadequate nutrition, are increasingly people who get this disease, which is called functional hypoglycemia. High consumption of simple carbohydrates like sugars, chocolates, soft drinks, alcohol and coffee, and on the other hand, a low intake of complex carbohydrates increase the incidence of this metabolic disorder.
Stress and snuff also influence the time to increase the risk for hypoglycemia. Read the rest of this entry »
