Fish Oil and Prostate Cancer
A recent study suggests that a low fat diet with fish oil supplements may slow the progression of prostate cancer.
Fish oil containing docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA). There is favorable evidence from several studies suggest that intake of recommended amounts of DHA and EPA – by eating fish or taking fish oil supplements – lowers triglycerides, the risk of death, myocardial infarction, abnormal rhythms dangerous heart and stroke in people with known cardiovascular disease. New survey shows greater accuracy in early detection of colorectal cancer
The results of two studies suggest that a new test for colorectal cancer screening, which is under investigation and was jointly developed by Mayo Clinic and Exact Sciences Inc. of Madison in Wisconsin, is highly accurate and significantly more sensitive than other noninvasive tests to detect pre-cancerous growths (adenomas) and early cancer. These results carry important implications for clinicians and tens of thousands of people in the U.S. (and worldwide). An early detection is a critical factor in obtaining better results in colorectal cancer, a disease that affects 1 in every 17 people and is the second leading cause of cancer death in America.
The first study, published in the February issue of Gastroenterology, further examination reveals that multiple DNA markers in stool is highly accurate in detecting precancerous polyps and early-stage colorectal cancer. This is the first blinded study is performed on a large scale to measure the effectiveness of the review.
The second study, published in the March issue of Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology, found that the stool DNA test accuracy is significantly higher in plasma reconsideration to identify patients with large precancerous polyps or colorectal cancer, as well provide fewer false positive results.
